Happy New Year!

Welcome to 2013! We have many fun adventures planned for the beginning of this new year! We will be having a special guest in our classroom, Ms. Laib, our student teacher! She will be with us until the end of April. In January, we will be working on publishing books through an online site. You will get a free copy of your child's book, with the option to purchase more. Our class will celebrate becoming published author's through our first publishing party! (More information to follow)

We are starting Chapter 6 in our Math in Focus series! Your 3rd grader will become experts on basic multiplication facts. During our CAFE time we, will be adding our 5th daily...Word Work! The kids are very excited about this. We will be working on making connections to text, using background knowledge to make predictions, studying the author/illustrator Chris Van Allsburg, and discovering new vocabulary in our read a loud The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane! 

My New Year's Resolution... to update my classroom blog more frequently :)

The Happenings in the Learning Cafe...

Wow! Three weeks has just flown by and here we are in the middle of September! Fall is definitely upon us in Wyoming. We are just about done with swimming and I can't wait for us to start a "normal" routine on Tuesday. Our class is just about finished with the first chapter in our new math series, Math In Focus. The Daily 5 and CAFE are up and running. We are getting ready to introduce Read to Someone. Thanks for stopping by and have a great week!

Welcome to Mrs. Gilson's 3rd Grade!

Welcome to a new school year! I am so excited to have you in my class! I hope you have had a great summer of playing, and of course a little reading too! I have been enjoying playing with my two boys. I did find time to read some great books this summer and I can’t wait to share a few of them with you!

We will have open house on August 27^th from 5:30-6:30. Bring in all of your supplies and you can put them in your cubby and find your spot. This is a great time to get to know your classroom and where you will be learning for the next 9 months!

As you know, I love to read and I can’t wait to share my love of reading with you! So, to start the year off I would like you to fill out the sheet that is enclosed with this letter. I would like you to tell me about one book that you have read this summer and you really loved it OR you could tell me about a book that has always been your favorite! Bring in the sheet to OPEN HOUSE and I will have a little something for you! (Below you will find a link to the summer book recommendation form)
